Why are you asking for information like my social security number or address?
In order to support various regulatory requirements, certain data is required by both Composer and Alpaca. This includes identity verification, such as full name, date of birth, and address, as well as tax information, such as social security number and investable assets.
Is my social security number safe?
We pass on info to our brokerage partner, Alpaca, and don't store this information.
Why do I need to open a brokerage account?
You won’t be able to automatically trade on Composer without an approved brokerage account.
Can you tell me more about Composer?
Composer is an investment platform that enables users to build, test, and deploy automated trading strategies based on logic and data. We offer a no-code, visual editor where users can create and invest in investment strategies called Symphonies. Founded in 2020, Composer is a registered investment advisor with the Securities and Exchange Commission (Disclosure: Registration with SEC does not imply any level of education, skill, or competency.) We are backed by tier-one venture capital firms including First Round Capital, who were early investors in Square and Uber. To date, we’ve executed over 250,000 orders and have a cumulative trading volume of $200m+.
Can you tell me more about Alpaca?
Alpaca Securities is our brokerage partner responsible for executing trades for Composer users as well as acting as the custodian of funds deposited into their brokerage account. Alpaca is a member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC). Through SIPC, securities in your account are protected up to $500,000.
