Why doesn’t my account support hybrid symphony trading?
Investing in hybrid symphonies is currently only available in Composer Stocks + Crypto accounts in eligible states. The Composer Stocks + Crypto account encompasses a brokerage account at Alpaca Securities, which holds stocks and cash, and a separate crypto account at Alpaca Crypto, which holds cryptocurrencies.
If you are trading in a Roth or Traditional IRA
Composer doesn’t yet support crypto trading in Roth or Traditional IRAs, so you cannot invest in a hybrid symphony with these accounts. However, we are working to add this functionality in 2025 and will share more information when it is available!
If you are trading in a Stocks account
If you are trading in a Stocks account held at Apex Clearing, this account does not support crypto trading, so you will receive a notice letting you know you are not able to invest if you try to invest in a hybrid symphony. You can verify the clearing firm for your account by checking your account statements under Accounts > Documents.
How do I enable hybrid symphony trading?
If you have a Stocks account held at Apex and are in a crypto eligible state, there are two ways to enable hybrid symphony trading:
- Liquidate all your assets, withdraw the funds to your bank account, and contact our team. We can assist you with closing your brokerage account at Apex, and you can open a Stocks + Crypto account at Alpaca. Then, you can deposit the funds into your new account.
OR
- Perform an account transfer via ACATs to a new Alpaca Stocks + Crypto account. This will allow you to transfer your stocks and cash in kind without liquidating and creating a potentially taxable event. Please contact our team if you wish to submit an account transfer.
Please don’t hesitate to contact our team at help@composer.trade to start the process or if you have any questions!
